In 2022 DPI launched a two-part project to understand the impact of same day voter registration in communities of color and document the ways organizing groups are innovating to maximize use of same day registration opportunities. Part 1 of this project was a four-state contextual analysis comparing the share of 2018 registrations that resulted from Same Day Registration (SDR) in Minnesota (42%) and Wisconsin (62%) where SDR has been available for decades, to the rates in Michigan (5%) and Nevada (4%) where SDR policies are new. This analysis highlights the critical role that implementation plays in any democracy policy reform. Part II of this study analyzes 2022 SDR use in Minnesota and Nevada and documents the innovative implementation practices of ISAIAH and ACDC to increase use of SDR.
